Kidney Walk & Ice Cream

October 7, 2011

Last Saturday morning we met my in-laws and nieces at the park near our house where I normally run for a walk benefitting the Kidney Foundation.  The walk was advertised as a 1-3 mile walk with stops along the way but was really a grouping of activities and tents and then everybody took off for a 1 mile walk together.  It was fun to have everybody out and together but I think the event was geared a little more towards kids than my father-in-law – the one who actually has kidney disease!

Who knew the Star Wars characters were such advocates for the Kidney Foundation?

After the walk Tim and I headed out to visit my grandmother in the hospital and then back home to use a Groupon that was expiring.  Only problem was despite the 10/2/11 expiration date when the store scanned the Groupon it was only showing up as $4, the price paid.  I felt bad for (us and) the small business owner who had to explain the situation to everybody who came in.

Regardless we got some yummy ice cream from a fabulous local store!  Nuts About Ice Cream in Bethlehem is so delicious!  I got one of their new flavors: chocolate hazelnut which was A-MA-ZING.

So rich and unlike Nutella it is totally acceptable to eat with a spoon!  We’ve been to Nuts About Ice Cream a few other times and all of their flavors are amazing.  We’d go all the time if we lived closer.  The family that owns it is very friendly and you can tell they take great care in crafting their flavors and they enjoy sharing them with customers!
